Our proprietary, patented, TFLN Technology platform redefines optical performance by uniquely combining the superior optical characteristics of thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) with scalable CMOS-like fabrication techniques. This innovative approach delivers unprecedented bandwidth and energy efficiency, powering critical technologies across AI, data centers, telecommunications, quantum computing, and emerging applications.

Liniobate offers InP-based modulators with traveling wave and segmented electrode designs are the topic of this group. The modulators include Mach-Zehnder modulators (MZM) and phase modulators.We offer development and manufacturing of photodetector chips and modules for the infrared wavelength range of 780 nm up to 2500 nm. Our research topics cover tele-/datacom applications with high-speed photodetectors as well as sensing devices with high sensitive InGaAs photodiode arrays.InP-based Lasers, EMLs, SOAs, MLLs and Gain Chips are being developed for a variety of applications in the area of optical tele- and data communications and sensors.We offer foundry services to external partners to allow customers/designers to acquire InP-based Photonic-Integrated Circuits (PICs) for any particular application.The Packaging group constructs modules to demonstrate the capabilities of the optical and optoelectronic devices which are developed at LD-PD PTE.LTD. This includes optical fiber coupling as well as electrical interfaces with RF connectors.

Additionally they design and construct tailor-made module prototypes or submounts for all external partners and customers.

TECHNOLOGY

Liobate specializes in design, fabrication, and packaging of next-generation photonic integrated circuits (PICs) that exploit the advantageous photonic and electro-optic characteristics of TFLN. Our world-leading proprietary expertise in the design and fabrication of ultra-low loss optical waveguides and ultra-broadband RF circuits on TFLN substrates enables the production of compact and low-loss PICs featuring record high speed and low power consumption.

    The lasers group is focused on advancing short wave infrared (SWIR) InP-based edge-emitting laser diodes within traditional optical communication bands like the O-Band (1310 nm) and C-Band (1550 nm), as well as alternative ranges such as the S-Band and L-Band. The main areas of focus include optical telecommunications, data communications, and sensor technology. This research aims to innovate new device structures, enhance device performance, and minimize costs associated with processing, testing, and eventual packaging. Active layers include Bulk-InGaAsP, QW-InGaAsP, QW-InGaAlAs combinations, and more recently, quantum dot (QD) structures.

    Our ongoing research, development, design, and fabrication efforts include the following areas:

  • DFB lasers for 10-30GHz direct modulation
  • High power single mode DFB lasers up to 200 mW
  • Gain Chips for external cavity lasers
  • Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA) for low noise and high power amplification
  • InP devices for integration with Si, SiN, LNOI, and Polymer PICs using flip-chip hybrid integration or micro-transfer printing
  • All devices are entirely fabricated at LD-PD PTE.LTD. using our InP processing line.

    Liniobate research topic include surface illuminated and waveguide-integrated photodiodes, using III-V semiconductors materials as InGaAsP and InAlGaAs material compositions on InP substrates. As services, we offer photodetector design, design of mask sets, epitaxial wafer growth, wafer processing, anti-refelction coating, high-speed optoelectronic characterization and prototype packaging into fiber-pigtailed modules with RF connectors up to several hundred GHz.

  • Receiver photonic integrated circuits (PIC) with 90° optical hybrids, AWGs and SOAs

  • uni-travelling carrier (UTC) photodiodes

  • Co-integration with trans-impedance amplifiers (TIA)
  • The Mach-Zehnder Modulator structure is suited not only for standard on-off-keying modulation, but also for enhanced new modulation schemes like Duobinary or Differential Phase Shift Keying (DPSK). The nested IQ Modulator structure is capable for the enhanced DQPSK modulation format.

    A 40 Gbit Modulator module has been developed with this component. Either GPPO or V-Connectors are used.

    Typical bandwidth of such a module is 40 GHz, the necessary driving voltage is Vpp = 2.5 V with an insertion loss of 8 dB.

    Lowest drive voltage achieved for a 40 Gbit Modulator was Vpp = 1.5 V.

    A variety of different modulators has been developed:

  • MZ Modulator for OOK
  • MZ Modulator for DPSK, Duobinary
  • IQ-Modulator for DQPSK
  • Phase Modulators
  • All devices are completely fabricated at Liniobate using our InP processing line. The electro-optic RF-Response can be measured up to 67 GHz on chip and module level.
